Knoxville’s local collaborative divorce group—Divorce Well Knoxville—has joined with collaborative practice groups in Memphis and Nashville to observe Divorce With Respect Week.

Knoxville Mayor Kincannon issued this proclamation:

WHEREAS: Divorce Well Knoxville has a long history of encouraging out-of-court dispute resolution with a dedication to helping couples manage their divorce process and untie the knot with respect; and

WHEREAS: Divorce Well Knoxville was established in 2016 as an organization consisting of divorce professionals who help individuals learn more about the Collaborative Divorce process, discover alternative dispute resolution methods and find collaborative attorneys, communication coaches and financial specialists who are familiar with Tennessee courts and the Collaborative Divorce process; and

WHEREAS: Choosing an out-of-court divorce process is better for children because it allows the divorcing parties to co-parent and end the marriage without destroying the family’s relationships and financial estate; and

WHEREAS: Collaborative Divorce affords couples more privacy in solving their differences and is often less expensive and less time-consuming than litigated cases; and

WHEREAS: The Collaborative Divorce process is designed to allow couples to divorce in a more respectful and dignified manner as they work with lawyers, child specialists, mental health professionals and financial coaches to craft their own agreements; and

WHEREAS: The Collaborative Divorce process and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals was nominated for the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize for transforming the way families resolve conflict; and

WHEREAS: Collaborative Divorce professionals in Knoxville are joining together to offer free divorce informational consultations during Divorce With Respect A week, March 4-8, 2024.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Indya Kincannon, Mayor of the City of Knoxville, Tennessee, do hereby proclaim March 4-8, 2024, to be Divorce With Respect Week in our city and ask all residents to join in this observance.
