Sorry, You Can’t Keep the Ring

Beyoncé tells men to “put a ring on it” but what happens when the engagement is called off?  Does the former-bride-to-be get to keep the engagement ring?  A New York court is dealing with that very situation. In Tennessee, the answer is simple: the ring is a conditional gift conditioned on the marriage actually taking place.  If the marriage doesn’t take place, you have to give the ring back. Sorry, ladies.
