2025 was an eventful year for me. I became Chair of the Tennessee Bar Association’s Family Law Section, saw two pieces of legislation I drafted become law, and worked with other Section leaders to craft five legislative proposals for consideration in the upcoming legislative session.

It was another busy year for my continuing legal education seminars. I presented “The Art of the Family Law Consultation” to the Tennessee Bar Association in June (described by one attendee as “probably the best CLE course I have ever taken”) and then delivered my annual “Tennessee Family Law Update” seminar to the Knoxville Bar Association and the Tennessee Bar Association. If you haven’t seen them, all three are still available on demand via the links above.

And just a few weeks ago, my office hosted the holiday party for the Knoxville Bar Association’s Family Law section.

Outside of the office, I returned to Bonnaroo after a 19-year absence. I had a jam-packed first day, which ended abruptly on the second day when flooding forced the early cancellation of what should’ve been a four-day festival. To make up for it, I went to the Shaky Knees festival in Atlanta in September and had a blast (and high-fived Flavor Flav!).

My wife requested a Bonnaroo photo with glitter on my face, so I made it happen.

The funniest thing that happened at Bonnaroo happened after the artist I was watching ended their set early. I realized I might have time to make it to the Insane Clown Posse show just in time to get drenched with Faygo. Sure enough, I made it there in time for this to happen.

The year also involved much quieter pleasures like backpacking in the Smokies.

This fall, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the unbelievable run by Vanderbilt’s football team. I only wish my dad were still alive to see it. He would never have believed Vandy would go 10-2 and have a player who was the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy. I’m not sure I still believe it.

I published 103 posts in 2025, bringing the total to over 2300 posts (!!!) since I started in February 2010.

Here are the 10 most popular posts of 2025:
