More Tennessee Divorce Statistics

According to the Annual Report of the Tennessee Judiciary, Tennessee trial courts disposed of 298,107 cases from July 2008 through June 2009. Of those, 60,320, or 20%, were domestic relations cases.

Of the 60,320 domestic relations cases, 30,632 were divorce cases, with 13,755, or 45%, being divorce cases involving minor children. Of the divorce cases with minor children, 78% were settled by the parties, 10% were dismissed, withdrawn, or transferred, and 12% went to trial.

From July 2008 through June 2009, Tennessee trial courts disposed of 20,728 post-divorce disputes. The vast majority of these post-divorce matters involved child support (42%) and contempt (45%) issues. Only 12% were related to modifying parenting plans/residential parenting schedules.

This data supplements my earlier post on Tennessee’s divorce statistics.
