Who's Most Likely to Cheat?

Ask an experienced divorce lawyer and the answer might be “everyone.” According to this source, however, the most common professions for the unfaithful are as follows:
Women

  1. Teachers
  2. Stay-at-home Moms
  3. Nurses
  4. Administrative Assistants
  5. Real Estate Agents

Men

  1. Physicians
  2. Police Officers
  3. Lawyers (Uh oh…Does this mean no one will date me now?)
  4. Real Estate Agents
  5. Engineers

Any thoughts on why these particular professions made the list? Post in the comments.

  1. Men: I see big egos and/or hefty incomes. Seems like men who are struggling to make ends meet would be less likely to throw money away on another woman.
Women: I don’t know if I think that those are the professions with the most cheaters; perhaps these women are just the ones who are more likely to ‘fess up or get caught.
    Enjoying your blog.

    1. Cindy, good point about the women. Stereotypically speaking, teachers, nurses and admin assistants might be a bit more “soft,” and therefore more willing to confess…

  2. Candy: I don’t think men spend a lot of money on affairs, generally speaking. *putting on my amateur psychologist hat* I think a lot of it stems from the human desire to be desired. Take physicians, for instance. Growing up, they typically were the studious, academically overachieving types who never had a lot of girls pursuing them. When the M.D. is bestowed, they suddenly become very desirable and are pursued by a lot of women, women who wouldn’t have given them the time of day in high school or college. Of course, it rarely ends well but no one foresees a bad outcome when they’re consumed with lust.
The truth is there are an infinite number of reasons why people stray. Human beings are complex creatures.

  3. Men don’t spend a lot of money on affairs??? How do you think they keep their girlfriends happy, when they’re married to another woman? They buy them shit. (Dinner, drinks, jewelry, etc.)
Also, with both doctors and nurses being on the list, I’d say a lot of that cheating is with each other. If Grey’s Anatomy has taught me anything, it’s that there’s a lot of sex going on in hospitals. 🙂 (And I get ALL of my knowledge of hospitals from TV.)

  4. Well – I honestly think that all those categories go hand in hand. The only one that has me confused is the stay at home moms. As I used to be one, I didn’t have a lot of free time alone. Free time when the kids were napping, maybe, but not true alone time. Maybe that’s where the police officer’s come in. lol. If you think about it though, Physcians and Nurses, Lawyers and Admin Assistants, Real Estate Agents on both sides…spend a lot of time together. Working long hours together through a life and death situation or through a big case can bring people closer together and allow for an intimacy that would not normally be happening. I’m completely baffled on Engineers.
